What does Gingerbread offer ?
Advice Line
Gingerbread provides a telephone advice service during office hours and an answering service with an emergency contact number for out of hours. We can provide advice on housing, tenancy issues, benefits and many other issues that concern lone parents. If we do not have the answer to hand we will be able to direct you to the appropriate service. The service is free of charge and completely confidential.
Rothesay Court
Provides supported accommodation for up to 21 lone parent families and pregnant single women, we also support lone dads.
Rothesay Court isn't just a place to stay in an emergency, we know that providing a temporary roof does not prevent the problems that lead to homelessness from happening again. We aim to assist families to tackle the problems they face and help them to maintain their next tenancy.
Every family is different and the reasons they become homeless are many and complicated. Gingerbread offers a needs led package of support individually tailored to each family. A vital part of our service is assisting resident families to gain the skills and knowledge to make a success of moving on into their own independent tenancies.
Many families who come to us have a had a difficult time trying to gain help and negotiate their way around the many services that exist. Negative experiences of parenting and school can have a huge knock on effect to their confidence in providing for their children. Our work with families aims to equip parents with the basic knowledge on every day matters such as budgeting, benefits, accessing support services and leisure activities.
We will assess the needs of each person and design a plan of support that may include help with basic reading, writing and maths, support with increasing employability e.g. writing a C.V. or getting back into education.
